Hey Flashers,

This last year and a half that I've been running FYS has been a lot of fun for me, I've met a lot of very talented and amazing filmmakers whom I know I'll have great friendships with. But it is with a heavy heart that I have to step away from this project for a while.

I don't know when I'll be coming back to it, but please head over to our facebook fan page and continue to post your films on there. I will help you promote on Facebook a bit, but I won't be updating this site.

Thanks for all your support and effort to keep Flash Your Shorts a success for the past year and a half!

Hey Flashers!

Welcome back to another week of Flash Your Shorts!

My deepest apologies for not posting last week. I was on a freelance gig that, while so much fun, ate up my entire week.

Our WEB SERIES SUMMER has gotten a lot of love, and will only go up from here. I've got a great line up of shows for you to watch this summer, and some great interviews from the awesome folks at Makin' It Happen (new video featured below).

This week we are featuring the first three episodes of SAVING RENT! "Saving Rent" is a comedy about six unlikely roommates in Los Angeles who share a house in order to save rent. The house belongs to Mike, who bought the house when he moved out to LA with his musician girlfriend, Kelley. However, when Mike gets laid off, he convinces Kelley to get roommates to move in to help pay the mortgage.

Saving Rent - Episode 1 - Roommate Wanted
Mike and Kelley are at their new house, to which they've recently moved from Boston. Mike convinces Kelley they need to find roommates to help pay for the mortgage due to the bad economy. Little does Kelley know that the real reason is Mike has lost his job and can't afford the mortgage himself. Meanwhile, Mike befriends Chucho, an illegal immigrant, while passing his days at the beach pretending to be at work. The couple eventually find four roommates to fill their house. And the adventure begins...

Saving Rent - Episode 2 - Finding a Job
We are introduced to the new roommates as they set out to find jobs. Paul, an actor, has a commercial audition. Tina, also an actor, has an audition herself, but this one is for an adult film. And Suzie, a sixteen year old runaway from Orange County, seeks a job at a diner. Chucho is the only one with a steady job, cleaning at a bar overnight and making a little extra cash by secretly selling the booze to his friends at work.

Saving Rent - Episode 3 - Finding the Culprit
The episode opens with a house meeting. Mike is very disturbed by someone's inability to flush the toilet. We are then introduced to Kelley's side job--doing promos for food. Meanwhile, Mike tries to find a job for himself and must resort to dogwalking. The episode ends with Kelley confronting Mike about the situation they've gotten themselves into.

Hey Flashers!

Sorry for missing last week, but I was prepping for the big announcement today. Starting with this update and going all the way through Labor Day, Flash Your Shorts will be featuring nothing but web series for our WEB SERIES SUMMER!

With the popularity of these series growing, and more and more people taking notice of this short form of entertainment, I wanted to take some time and feature as many new shows as I can for those of you at home. As web series make their way towards the mainstream, we here at Flash Your Shorts want to do our part to help this trend move forward.

The first entry into our summer of series, is the continuation of PARTY GIRL PLUS ONE, we have featured two episodes previously, and this week we are featuring the next 4 episodes of the show, so you fans can catch up with the series as a whole!

ALSO! We have teamed up with Luminave Films/Longlost Pictures new web series MAKIN' IT HAPPEN -- Which talks to up and coming talented people who are defying convention, facing their destiny, and making it happen! Below I have posted the pilot episode for the show, and I invite all of you to watch it.

Hey Flashers!

Welcome back to a great week here at Flash Your Shorts. I hope you all enjoyed our presentation of the first three episodes of THE SUNSET PLAYERS last week. This week we have three great new short films for you to check out, including the first episode of UNIVERSAL DEAD, which is a new Zombie Web Series from Unconventional Films. Hey Flashers!

I would like to humbly apologize for the lack of updates over the last couple weeks. I realize that it's been almost a month since I posted on the site, and for that I am sorry. But! Let me fill you in on the details of what's been going on with me.

A couple months ago, I stated that I would be taking a break from FYS in order to movie and to film my movie In Search Of.... Well, the movie didn't happen right away due to weather circumstances...until two weeks ago. I was informed that the location where I had intended to film the finale, would be gone. I had been so caught up in getting acclimated to the LA lifestyle, that I had to rush pre-production on the film and bump it up to a April 26th start date. I immediately created a website (linked above), shot an intro video, and a teaser trailer, and went to work on securing funds to get us through production. Within 3 days, I had reached my goal and then some. With everything locked, cocked, and ready to rock, my team descended upon San Diego and we shot the movie...in 2 days!

It was a hell of a trip, but I accomplished my goal of shooting a feature film.

Now the footage is with the editors, and I'm prepping for the post-production phase. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but as soon as the trailer is completed, you bet your ass that it will be featured here first!

Howdy Flashers!

Welcome back to another great week here on Flash Your Shorts!

It has been a crazy week for the web-based film making world. The Streamys had their 2nd annual award show last night in downtown LA, and from what I hear, it was a blast. I would have gone, but I spent most of last week at all the pre-streamy events, and I was wiped out! It was great times, and I met a lot of great filmmakers who's work you will see on this site in the coming weeks.

I've also been asked to be Film Chat's "Fan of the Week" on their Facebook page. I will be spending all week long posting film related questions, and talking with filmmakers and movie lovers all week long. I'm very much looking forward to this, and I wanted to thank Lee Tosca for inviting me to take part in this experience.

Thanks for coming back for another exciting week on the site. It's been a pretty good week for us here at Flash Your Shorts, and I would like to tell you a bit about it.

1.) We became a sponsor for Rich Mbarkiet's Web Series Network (www.webseriesnetwork.com) for Sunday, April 4th 2010. He is doing a really interesting ad campaign for his site, and we jumped on board to help him out. Please check out that site and support Rich in his endeavors.

2.) I created a new website for filmmakers called ScriptsNotes.com. This site is where filmmakers come when they want to make a movie, and don't know what to film. Each month I upload a new short film screenplay written by me, and it is for sale to anyone who wants to buy a copy. Each script is $9.99, and with that, you get the rights to enter it into festivals (if you wish) once it's been completed. It has been an idea of mine for a couple years, and I'm very happy that it is online.

Howdy Flashers!

I hope you all had a great weekend, and I'm sorry once again for being a tad late with my update. Time Warner Cable in my apartment likes to cut out whenever and I spent half the day without any internet access at all. Hopefully that will be changed in the next day or so.

If you look at the post directly below this one, you will find the video of the film making panel I spoke on at last weekends San Diego IndieFest. The video is very informative and my co-panelists were fantastic, and are a complete wealth of knowledge when it comes to marketing films online. I highly recommend it.

Other than that, I wanted to announce that as of April 1st, I will be closing our ning.com page and making our Facebook fan page our main source of connectivity and discussion. For those of you who have Facebook, please click on this link, and for those of you who aren't on Facebook...you really should be on Facebook...so sign up, and then click on that link. :)

This week will mark the ending of the two series that I've been posting (almost exclusively) on FYS for a while now. I have decided to put the last 3 episodes of Low Budget Comedy and Zarb The Series on this week's update. It has been an absolute pleasure showcasing these fine pieces of work, and I wish the creators all the luck in the world.

Also, I would like to talk about the final video that I will be posting on today's update. This is a teaser trailer for my friends Neal & Jana Hallford's movie WITCH CREEK. FYS - San Diego IndieFest 2010 - Filmmaker's Panel

Hey Flashers!

Just this past weekend I was back in San Diego to party it up for my birthday (the big 28), and to attend the 6th annual San Diego IndieFest that was being put on by Craig Wilson and his amazing staff at the Mental Eclectic.

On the second day of the show, I was asked to speak on a film panel with David Brannin and Karen Worden of Film Courage fame (http://www.filmcourage.com -- CHECK IT OUT!) and the very talented Jenn Page (http://www.luminavefilms.com). We spoke for an hour on how to market films online, and the 4 of us each gave our different takes/perspective on the ever growing online film market that has been a blessing/curse for most of us filmmakers out there.

Hey Flashers!

Once again I am very sorry for not updating last week on the site. I've been in the process of getting settled in the big city that is Los Angeles, and now that I'm here, I've hit the ground running and connected with some amazing folks!

On a side note, I am using Time Warner Cable for internet service and it sucks...so there might be future delays in posting the updates because I can't keep connected to the net long enough to get the information in place...

On another side note, I am going to be cancelling the forum page for FYS (http://www.ning.com/flashyourshorts) at the end of March. As much as I enjoyed using Ning for it's services, I am going to be migrating the forum over to our facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/flashyourshortsfan), and using that from now on. If you don't have a facebook page already, then I highly recommend getting one. Facebook and Twitter are staples in the indie film making community, and it's one of those bandwagons that you should be on.

Also, this upcoming Saturday I will be speaking on a panel at the San Diego IndieFest about how to market films online. The panel will be recorded, and next week I'll post the video here on the site for you all to check out!

WELCOME BACK TO FLASH YOUR SHORTS!

Hey Flashers,

I wanted to start off this update by announcing that I am now a resident of the North Hollywood Arts District. I moved in and am in the process of getting settled. As for the movie I talked about making, that took an unfortunate delay. It's still happening, but it will probably have to be postponed another two months or so.

In the mean time, this last week I was the Host/Interviewer at the 2nd Short's 'N Spirits Showcase put on by the Mental Eclectic and Luminave Films (and the wonderful host Jenn Page). It was a fun time, and I hope they ask me to come back next month and do the same thing!

Speaking of Jenn Page, we will be speaking on panel with the two hosts of the Film Courage podcast, about online marketing for films. This will be taking place at the San Diego IndieFest on the last week of March. It will be a blast!

And finally, during the hiatus of the site, we turned a year old. Thank you to everyone that has helped FYS become what it is today.

I just wanted to give you heads up and let you know that I will not be updating the site again until March 7th, 2010. Here are the reasons why:

1.) I am moving to Los Angeles in the next few weeks. I signed the lease for my apartment in NoHo, and I need to finish packing my things and move in.

2.) I am filming a movie. I can't go into many details at the moment, but I am working on accomplishing a long-term goal of mine and I am dead set on finishing it.

Hey Flashers!

Sorry for missing the update last week, but I've been neck deep in getting ready to move to Los Angeles, and for the next month or so, I might be sporadic with the weekly updates. But to make up for my missing of last week's post, I am going to double up on this week's submissions and show you guys more films!

In the meantime, if you live in the Los Angeles area and love watching short films, get ready for a new venue to fill that need! The Mental Eclectic has launched a new short film venue called Shorts 'n Spirits Showcase in Los Angeles, and are re-branding the group's name. They have also announced that new S3 events in both Seattle and Kansas City! Congrats guys! I hope all of you had a great holiday(s), and partied it up over the New Year.

I wanted to apologize for the lateness in my coming back to the site, I've had a lot going on with the move to LA and my time has been monopolized with that. So, for all you LA Flashers, I'll be among you in the next month!

Sorry for the day late update this week, I was in LA all day yesterday looking at houses and scouting the city for possible "to-do's" when I move there.

Welcome back to another awesome week here on Flash Your Shorts!

It's been a pretty crazy week here on the site. Last Friday I met with Craig Wilson and Kathy McCurdy from the San Diego Film Commission to talk about Craig's new short film screening "Sippin' Shorts Social". We talked shop for almost 2 hours and when it was all over, we got the support of the SD Film Commission! This is great news for getting more people to the screenings to watch YOUR films!

Flash Your Shorts is taking an active part in the screening events. We are going to be having our "Flash Your Shorts - Pick of the Month!" each month, and we will showcase a short film from a filmmaker on this site! If you are interested in getting your films screened in front of an audience and getting more exposure, please email me for more information.

To all of you on our mailing list, you will be getting the flyer for Sippin' Shorts Social...if you aren't on our mailing list and want to up to date with all the happenings here on FYS, just email me and I'll put you on there.

I'd like to apologize for not posting last week, I was out of town and unable to get to a computer to post the new films. On a cool side note, I worked with DB Sweeney (X-Files, Jericho), Gary Graham (Alien Nation, Star Trek: Enterprise), and Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Sockbaby 4) on the first 3 episodes of the new web series UNIVERSAL DEAD from Unconventional Films! The shoot went really well, and you guys will be stoked when you see the show when it's launched. I'll be sure to post a link to the show when it's online for you to watch.

I also wanted to quickly talk about The Mental Electic's Sipping Shorts Social that took place last Thursday in San Diego. I've got some exciting news for all of you budding filmmakers out there, Craig Wilson and the Mental Eclectic are hosting the first (of many) film screenings in San Diego. For months he has been working on creating the #indieMM phenomenon on twitter, facebook, and other social networking avenues.

Heya Flashers! Welcome back to another exciting week here on Flash Your Shorts!

I'd like to give a quick shout to Leo Curbelo. Leo is a filmmaker who is working on a feature film called "The People's Republic of Brooklyn". He is putting together a full read of his script on November 9th. If you're interested in checking out this cool event, please click on the link and check it out! Also, Joel Stephens is a producer of a TV show called Sprockets and Splices, which features content from filmmakers and gets their work put on the boobtube and showcased to thousands of viewers! Howdy Flashers! Welcome back to another kick ass week here on Flash Your Shorts!

The San Diego Film Festival was this past weekend, and I heard that a lot of great films premiered there. I was unable to attend the festival, but if you went, please talk about it on our forums and let us know what you saw there, and if it was any good.

My filmmaker youtube challenge is still going. If you click here you can see the video I posted a couple weeks ago where I asked all filmmakers why they do what do? I've gotten a few good responses so far, and I know that there are more of you great filmmakers out there just waiting to tell the world why you film. So, record a video response, upload it to wherever you can, and send me the link!

Sorry for the delay in getting the site updated, it's been a crazy week thus far and I kept getting sidetracked (damn you Halo: ODST!).

Howdy all, it's another exciting week here at Flash Your Shorts!

Last wednesday, I was lucky enough to attend the group "B" screening of the San Diego 48 Hour Film Project (www.48.tv) and support my friend's group and their film "The Hunt for Indigo Joe". It was a great time and I'm really glad to have been a part of the viewing experience. Hey Flashers! Welcome back to another exciting week here at Flash Your Shorts!

During the course of the last week, I was able to work with Craig Wilson from The Mental Eclectic (http://www.mentaleclectic.com) and set up a permanent meet day for the FYS Meet Up group. We will be meeting on the last Tuesday of every month. This month we are meeting on August 25th at 7:00pm. Be sure to check out the website for more information.

I also have been mailing out the beginnings of the Filmmaker Q&A section of FYS. Several of you have responded, and I'm working my way through your submissions now. If you'd like to take part in this new feature, please email me and let me know.

As a way of making money to help build and promote the site, I have designed a new card game called Monsters VS. Monsters. I am in the process of raising funds to launch the game. Any donation of $10 dollars will receive a copy of the game when it is released in the next month or so. Please follow the link to get more information.
